Our good friend Peace wrote a letter about Claire, and how the planned nursery school can make a big difference in her life, as well as many other children.
Hello Bruce,
It is good that Rogers has so far sent you some of the photos that you need, I am sending you few more photos and a short report on a young child who might go to the new nursery school.
The short report I am sending you I got it from ATUKWASE CLAIRE from baby class. This girl might go to the new nursery school because after this year, she will still be having more two years in nursery school.
According to Claire, provision of new nursery school can have the following impacts on her life and that of her family;
-Firstly, she told me that in case they get the new nursery school, since they will be staying alone, some of them will also have a chance to become school leaders un like where they are mixed with old primary children who are the only ones leading them. She says that she is praying hard so that when their nursery school gets ready she becomes the head girl of nursery section. She has a hope that she is going to live a leading life. She went ahead telling me that this will have an impact on her family through guiding her young sisters and brothers, that she will also work as a leader at their home during holidays which will make her family members happy.
-Secondly, she told me that after joining her new nursery school, she will feel very happy and proud because old primary children will not shout for her any more. She explained to me that for them (nursery section) don’t go for morning and evening preps, so when they are still enjoying their sleep, old children make a lot of noise for them either when they are from or going for morning or evening preps. Therefore she thinks that if she joins her new nursery school, she will always have enough rest at the right time.
-She went ahead telling me that in case there will be no water in the school, it will be slightly near for her to get water from water source near the play ground. That this will be a bit easier compared to how is to day while still at primary section. That this water will also help her while modeling, that it will also be a bit nearer for her to get modeling materials like clay soil which they get from the swamp.
-She also told me that after reaching the new nursery school, her life style will change. When I asked her how, she told me that she has much hope of studying from cemented classes in a new school un like to day where her class is not cemented and she always here of her fellow children suffering from cold due to much dust from class, and other diseases which affects their legs. She thinks that if she is health, her parents will always not get worried of her and at the same time her parents will feel very happy if they find her in a better class than before.
-Claire also told me that in case she joins her new nursery school, she is likely to have a better quality education. She gave me an example that some times when they are in class with their teacher may be learning a song or how to read, that their teacher tells them not to read or sing very loudly so as not to make noise for primary section. She has much hope that after joining her new nursery school, she is likely to have freedom of speech. In addition, that she also fears these old children more especially when they meet in some private areas inside school like in toilet. That even if they are playing by dancing, singing, use their dolls which they receive from their American friends, the old children tells them that they are making noise for them, therefore she hopes for a better change while at their new nursery school.
-Claire went ahead and told me that in case one of her family member come to visit her at school, he or she will not waste much time looking for me. She thinks that it will be easy to get her since they will be few in number and only from nursery section.
Claire is very bright; she also explained to me that when they reach their new nursery school, she has hope that all nursery children will have good behaviors. That this is because they will not be taught bad behaviors from primary children any more since they will not be meeting.
-That when she reaches her new nursery school, that she will need to work very hard so that she gets promoted to another level of education which will be primary school. That this may be the same to her fellow nursery children and it may improve on their performance hence making their parents happy and love our school more.
Finally, Claire thinks that, since they will be having enough school compound, the school may put for them playing. This may be reducing on their boredom during playing hours. That she has ever seen them in one of good schools in Kabale, so she thinks the school may put them for children as playing materials.
