To all our Yamba Abaana sponsors and donors!

Greetings to you all, we are so happy to communicate to you as we wrap up 2021. Like the year 2020, this year too, the schools remained closed due to Covid-19 and teaching/learning process have not been easy for many of the schools in rural Uganda. It has required a lot of innovativeness from the school’s leadership team to come up with plans on how they can reach out to the different students they serve.

We are grateful to God for the wisdom he gave to the leadership of Yamba Abaana board members and the administrative leadership of Rubanda Solidarity for the different ideas they came up to help in supporting all our students that we serve. Even when this was a new program to implement, we are grateful to all the stakeholders for the great commitment they showed to ensure that we achieve the greatest value of this investment.

With your ongoing support and commitment both staff and students at our school have understood more about your love for us, we were able to make an enormous difference in the lives of students and their families and this is shown through the following achievements we registered in 2021-

  1. We were able to distribute food packages in both students’ and staff’s homes and other needy families.
  2. You have helped us to keep our gardens green through supporting us in agriculture.
  3. Rubanda Solidarity Primary School staff adopted to teaching our students through at home learning through distribution of study materials.
  4. Rubanda solidarity was able to secure seven Computers to use in training staff and equipping them with technological skills. With this our Staff have been trained and can now apply the skills learnt in their daily work.
  5. Through the computer skills learnt, currently the staff can be able to hold online teaching, manage data and make analytical reports that will help in better decision making.
  6. Teacher student’s relationships have greatly improved as the teachers keep meeting students one on one as they are distributing the study materials.

As we look forward to the opening of the schools at the beginning of January 2022, as Rubanda solidarity we have designed what we have called “back to school strategy” which includes the following laid out activities-

  • Ensure that all our staff are fully vaccinated with at least 2 vaccination shots of any of the vaccine available in the nearby health center.
  • Sensitize parents to also go for vaccination.
  • Start preparing classes and repair all the broken desks, beds, mosquito nets that have gotten spoilt within this period of two years.
  • Reach out to all sponsored students and start preparing them for the opening of schools. While doing this, I found out that 3 students have left school and when I tried to talk to them, they showed me that the holiday became too long for them, and they decided to go for other businesses. Two of our students are now big boys in secondary school.
  • Keeping our gardens green.
  • Home visitation and giving psycho-social support to our students and their parents.
  • Continuing Covid-19 home education program
  • Hold consultative meetings with the parents and students as we prepare them for the opening of schools in January.

As always, I want to thank you for your continued support and engagement in Rubanda solidarity primary school. Together we make this school a special place for children to learn and grow and we are hopeful for a better future.

Allow me to wish you a merry Christmas and prosperous new year 2022. May the spirit of Christmas fill your homes!!! Best wishes!

Yours sincerely,

Peace Uwimana
