The fraternity of Rubanda Solidarity is filled with much thanks and joy due to the support from our donors for purchase of mosquito nets. In Uganda—most especially in the south western part of the country—malaria is a common disease that affects people and many times takes away their lives. In the recent past, we have received significant rainfall that has created many breeding places for mosquitoes, which consequently increases the rate of malaria transmission. We therefore believe that the thought that our dear donors, headed by Dr. Bruce Murray, had of providing us with mosquito nets was wonderful and came at perfect time.
We were blessed with funding worth $900 which enabled us to buy 110 mosquito nets for all the boarding children in the Primary Section. The children were extremely happy for the nets, as many of them had no mosquito nets and were at risk to contract malaria at any moment.
We thank God so much that we have not yet registered any sickness as a result of lack of mosquito nets, and we are so thankful to have received this funding as it has helped us to address sickness challenges that would have risen in future.
The children are also extremely happy because for some of them, it was their first time sleeping under a mosquito net (new students who joined us since the last donation). They are saying that they have said “bye bye” to malaria due to the provision of these mosquito nets.
Peace Uwimana
